About

It has been said color photography captures the moment, and black and white photography captures the soul of the moment. Horicon Marsh has an amazing soul. Growing up in Wisconsin, Horicon Marsh has been a sanctuary of wonder and joy for me since I was a young girl. There’s no place I can think of more fitting to capture the soul of a place. Over the years, as I’ve witnessed Horicon Marsh evolve, I’ve realized that perhaps its soul has evolved too. During the pandemic, my visits to the marsh became more frequent, reinforcing my belief in the outdoors’ paramount importance to our health—a belief that resonates deeply within my soul.

This increased trips to the marsh during such an unprecedented time brought a realization: the marsh undergoes daily transformations and presents a different view with each passing season. It sparked a curiosity in me—through black and white photography, could we perhaps glimpse the true nature of its soul, irrespective of these changes? This website is a chronicle of that journey. Through “Capturing the Soul of Horicon Marsh,” I wish to share not only the breathtaking visuals of the marsh but also to delve deeper into its soul.

For those who might argue that the marsh’s beauty is lost without color, I invite you to follow my Instagram. There, color captures the fleeting moments, offering a contrast to the soulful depths explored on this website. Instagram will also feature updates from my trips and videos captured during my visits. Committing to a weekly drive for a year—and perhaps even beyond—I aim to document both the soulful essence and the vibrant moments of Horicon Marsh.

Join me as we revisit familiar spots and uncover new vistas, capturing the ephemeral moments and timeless truths whispered by Horicon Marsh to those who listen.
